A huge tamarind tree came crashing down and damaged a 600 mm main pipeline at Merces on Tuesday afternoon.
Due to the incident, water supply to consumers of St Cruz, Taleigao and St Andre constituencies including Goa Medical College will be hit till the damaged pipeline is replaced.
According to a press release issued by PWD, water supply is likely to be affected on July 7 and 8.
Meanwhile, a PWD source informed that two pipelines of around 6 metres each are damaged due to the tree fall and work is underway to replace the same.
“However, the major challenge we are facing is to repair the concrete structure supporting the pipelines as the area is under water,” the source stated.
When The Goan visited the area on Tuesday night, several workers were at the site to replace the damaged pipelines on war footing. A JCB excavator, a crane and a concrete mixer were also requisitioned to help the workers in hastening the repair work.
