With the road-widening work in progress between Calangute Church and Nagoa, trees by the roadside will be protected and will be turned into road dividers.
This was stated by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo as part of efforts to protect the trees from being chopped down. Lobo, however, stated that those trees on the verge of collapse would be felled.
There are a number of trees between Bokyacho Wad and Dolphin Circle Junction, and locals had demanded that these trees be protected during road-widening work.
Authorities decided to use these trees as natural dividers without cutting them and began with work to widen the road with the construction of a protection wall on one side of the road.
Assuring that the road-widening work would be carried out without touching the existing trees, Lobo advised people not to get confused about the road construction work.
Lobo also expressed his gratitude to those who provided land to widen the Saligao side of the road along with the Calangute-Nagoa road.
