MARGAO
The Muxer area of the Velim village witnessed an uproar over a land development activity.
As a group of persons protested over the activity, a team of Cuncolim police led by PSI Mahesh Naik also rushed to the site to avert any law and order situation.
Velim Sarpanch Savio D’Silva, who also visited the spot questioned the land owner over the activity. When the owner replied saying he had obtained the construction licence from the panchayat body, the sarpanch pointed out that the licence was not issued to carry out the alleged illegal cutting.
The owner maintained that he is not involved in any hill cutting activity, claiming he has obtained the licences from the authorities. The sarpanch, however, demanded to know whether any hill cutting permission has been obtained from any of the authorities.
Meanwhile, PSI Mahesh Naik has informed that the Cuncolim police has taken into its possession the machinery working at the site. The PSI informed that the Cuncolim police will write to the Town and Country Planning department to verify whether any hill cutting has taken place at the site.
In the meantime, Velim sarpanch spoke to the deputy Collector, Jyoti Kumari and requested to send the team to verify the facts at Velim.
