Vasco Police file case under SC/ST Atrocities Act

The Vasco Police have registered a case under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, based on a written complaint filed by a resident of Chapel Bhat, Matvem, 

Dabolim.  

According to the complaint, the incident took place on 17th September 2024, between 1:30 pm and 2:00 pm at the Matvem Dabolim bus stop. The complainant alleged that two women, Pratibha Shet and her daughter Akangsha Shet, both residents of Chapel Bhat, Matvem, Dabolim, used casteist slurs against her.

It is claimed that the accused insulted the complainant, who belongs to the Scheduled Caste community, by calling her derogatory names with the intent to demean her caste identity.  

Based on the complaint, Vasco Police have registered an offence under Sections 3(1)(r) and 3(1)(s) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.  

Vasco Police Inspector Kapil B Nayak is leading the investigation, under the supervision of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
