Woman pillion rider killed in mishap at Dharbandora

A 26-year-old woman pillion rider from Rivona died while the scooter rider was injured in a road mishap in front of the Deputy Collector's office in Dharbandora late Monday evening.

According to reports, Jolly Fernandes (26) of Sanguem was riding a scooter from Sanguem to Tisk-Usgao with Nifa Fernandes (26) of Rivona on the pillion. 

The scooter rider reportedly lost control of the scooter due to a speed breaker in front of the Deputy Collector's office and both riders fell on the ground.

Locals had been demanding the removal of this speed breaker on account of frequent accidents at the site.

Both riders were injured and were taken to the Piliem Primary Health Centre by a 108 Ambulance, but Nifa was declared dead on admission. Ponda Police conducted the panchnama of the accident.

Angry locals decided to block the road on Tuesday morning to highlight the frequent mishaps in the area. This blockade is likely severely affect traffic along the Ponda-Belgaum route.
