A 32-year-old man from Gavathan-Veling died in a road mishap after a tempo carrying milk and a scooter collided with each other near the Mangueshi church in the wee hours of Thursday.
According to reports, the incident took place at about 12.30 am when the tempo struck the scooter driven by Viraj Vidyadhar Dabholkar and later rammed into an electricity pole. Dabholkar was moved to the Ponda Sub District Hospital by a 108 ambulance but died while undergoing treatment.
PI Satish Gawde and PSI Sushant Sangodkar conducted the panchanama of the accident and Mardol police later arrested the tempo driver Saliman Salim Shaik (39) of Tisk-Usgao.
Dabholkar was working abroad and was to leave Goa to return to his job on November 28. He was married two years ago and had recently purchased the scooter. The entire village was in shock over his sudden and untimely demise. The final rites were performed in the local crematorium on Thursday.
Traffic Police Superintendent Akshat Kaushal visited the spot on Thursday morning along with Colva Traffic Police Inspector Philomena Costa, who is in charge of Ponda police station. SP Kaushal expressed concern about the rising accidents in the State.
