Chief Minister Pramod Sawant brushing aside Monday's order of the Bombay High Court striking down the construction license of the Mollem panchayat for the Tamnar power project and his insistence that the project will be cleared as with a fresh construction license, has rubbed youth spearheading the agitation the wrong way.
On Wednesday, dozens of youth from across Goa assembled at the Forest Department headquarters at Altinho and warned Sawant and the political class of political backlash from Goa's young voter if they continue to be obstinate on the projects threatening Mollem.
Medical student Mithila Prabhudesai said: "It is sad to see the government taking decisions which are not in the interest of the state. In a pandemic where mental health is a concern, the government isn't making it easy for citizens by ignoring dissent."
Outside the Forest headquarters at Altinho, Sawant and politicos, in general, were at the receiving end of the ire of the youth.
"You are being watched. We will show you when you come for our votes. We will remember especially in 2022," some of the youth demonstrating to demand revocation of forest clearances granted to Tamnar project, said.
Another youngster Nikita Braganca said: "Time and again, the youth have asked for clarity on the projects granted permission but in vain. We are tired of asking. Now, we demand the permissions be revoked. In 2022, we will remember."
