BELAGAVI
Arihant Hospital, Belagavi, has achieved a significant milestone as its Senior Interventional Cardiologist, Dr Prabhu C Halkati, has been conferred the prestigious Andreas Gruentzig Fellowship by the Academy of Cardiac Interventions (ACI), London, in recognition of his outstanding and lasting contributions to coronary angioplasty and advanced cardiac interventions.
The Andreas Gruentzig Fellowship is regarded as one of the highest global honours in the field of interventional cardiology. Named after Prof. Andreas Gruentzig, who performed the world’s first coronary angioplasty and is widely known as the Father of Angioplasty, the fellowship is awarded only to cardiologists who demonstrate exceptional expertise, sustained excellence, and dedication to the speciality.
Dr Halkati received the fellowship from two internationally acclaimed pioneers in cardiology — Prof Antonio Colombo (Italy) and Prof Bernhard Meier (Switzerland). Both are globally respected leaders in interventional cardiology and have closely worked with Prof. Gruentzig in the United States. They currently serve as Academic Directors of the Academy of Cardiac Interventions, London.
The honour formally certifies that Dr Halkati has met the highest international standards in interventional cardiology and is officially recognised as an Andreas Gruentzig Fellow by ACI London in 2026.
Congratulating Dr Halkati, Dr M Dixit, MD & CEO of Arihant Hospital and a renowned CVTS surgeon, expressed immense pride over the recognition. Dr Dixit stated that the fellowship reflects Dr Halkati’s clinical excellence, unwavering commitment to patient care, and his major contribution towards delivering world-class cardiac treatment to patients in Belagavi, Goa and across North Karnataka.
Arihant Hospital’s standing as a leading centre for advanced cardiac care reaffirms its commitment to ethical, patient-centric and globally benchmarked healthcare services in the region, Dr Dixit said.
