A 72-year-old man from Chicalim was allegedly cheated of Rs 1,50,299 in an online fraud after he was tricked into sharing his credit card details with a person posing as a superstore employee.
According to Vasco police, the complainant, Joseph Mario Lopes (72), received a call from an unknown person who claimed to work for the superstore. The accused allegedly convinced him to click on a link and enter his credit card details, saying it would make banking transactions easier.
Soon after he submitted the information, Rs 1,50,299 was fraudulently debited from his bank account, police said.
Based on the complaint, Vasco police registered an offence under Section 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Nikhil Dessai of Vasco Police Station under the supervision of PI Vaibhav Naik and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
