PRISM delivers early breakthrough for Goa Police

Recently launched intelligence system, Pro Active Risk Identification and Surveillance Mechanism (PRISM), has helped the Goa Police arrest a second suspect in a narcotics case, marking one of its first major breakthroughs since becoming operational.
The arrest relates to a Crime Branch case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, in which a Nigerian national had earlier been taken into custody. The CB subsequently engaged PRISM to trace the accused’s forward and backward linkages.
SP Rahul Gupta said that operating from the CB headquarters in Ribandar, PRISM functions as an intelligence fusion and continuous watch unit. At the request of the investigating officer, PI Mahesh Gadekar, the unit conducted a detailed technical analysis of mobile phone data, including call detail records and other digital parameters.
“The analysis generated intelligence that led to the identification and tracking of a second accused, who was subsequently arrested. Efforts are on to trace the source of the narcotics supply and identify the alleged supplier,” he said.
In a separate case, Canacona police sought PRISM’s assistance in identifying a two-wheeler used in an assault on a foreign national. While local officers had carried out preliminary identification, PRISM conducted technical verification and linkage analysis, determining that the vehicle belonged to a Quepem resident Sada Velip. Further intelligence inputs identified his son Rohan Velip. His photographs were shared with SDPO Canacona, which later confirmed him as the suspect involved in the assault case. The accused was subsequently arrested.
“PRISM is already delivering tangible results by strengthening intelligence-led policing in the State,” the officer added.
