Following the postponement of the e-auction of low-grade iron ore dumps pending DPR evaluation, the Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) has now asked the mining companies to revise their detailed project report (DPR) and submit it by February 16.
The directions were issued after the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) raised queries on the DPR submitted by the bidders. “TERI had made some observations on the DPR and accordingly, we directed the bidders to revise their report and submit it by February 16,” DMG director Narayan Gad said.
Gad said that the auction process will soon be held once the revised DPR is submitted and scrutinised.
Last month, DMG postponed the proposed auction of ten low-grade iron ore dumps, estimated to contain around 22 million metric tonnes of ore, scheduled on January 8-9.
As per the prescribed process, each bidder is required to submit a DPR in conformity with the guidelines laid down by TERI. The DPR must detail the excavation plan, safety measures, logistics and transportation arrangements, waste-handling strategy, environmental management plan and dump-closure proposal.
According to the DMG, of the 26 identified iron ore dumps lying on private land without payment of conversion fees by former leaseholders, ten dumps located in Sanguem, Sattari and Dharbandora talukas were shortlisted for e-auction in the first phase.
