AYUSH Wellness Centre at GMC soon; 28 centres sanctioned across Goa

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, announced plans to expand AYUSH services across the state, including the establishment of an AYUSH Wellness Centre at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), along with Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs), and district hospitals.

The announcement was made today during the inauguration of an AYUSH Wellness Centre at the Secretariat in Porvorim, in the presence of Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and Chief Secretary V Candavelou. 

Chief Minister urged government staff to utilise the services for preventive healthcare and regular check-ups. “The focus of the wellness centre is preventive healthcare and regular check-ups. All the staff members and other department staff who visit Secretariat can utilize services. AYUSH doctors will be available from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm,” said CM 

CM Sawant also highlighted that GMC has tied up with the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) for the establishment of an Integrative Oncology Research and Care Centre (IORCC). The proposed facility will combine traditional systems such as Ayurveda, Yoga, and Panchakarma with modern oncology practices, in collaboration with the Tata Memorial Centre (ACTREC), Mumbai.

Emphasising the need for preventive healthcare, the Chief Minister said, “AYUSH OPD will also be introduced at GMC in the near future to benefit citizens. Goa is seeing a rise in chronic diseases and prevention of these diseases should be done. I urge citizens to utilise wellness and counselling services at healthcare centres.”

Meanwhile, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that 28 AYUSH Wellness Centres have been sanctioned across Goa with support from the Centre. “These centres will provide quality healthcare services across the state. With the continued initiatives of the Chief Minister, Goa is witnessing rapid development in the healthcare sector,” he said.

Rane also informed that a district hospital in Ponda will be inaugurated soon, adding that a hospital has already been inaugurated in Sanguem.
