During the summer and post-monsoon days, we often read about squally conditions that affect Sattari and Bicholim districts. On March 25, Sattari witnessed light rain-fall and gusty winds. Roofs of houses were blown away, electrical cables snapped and horticultural and agricultural fields were damaged.
People take time to recover from the economic loss that ensues because of such erratic weather. It would be worthwhile if meteorological researchers investigate these powerful stormy situations, that prevail for a short-time, in the hinterlands of Goa.
The reasons need to be comprehended for the squally weather in terms of topography, temperature variations, vegetations, cloud types, cloud bursts, wind pattern and velocity, and other causative factors.
It may be difficult to prevent the phenomenon but a warning or prediction could be made of the sudden changes in the atmospheric conditions, to safeguard people and properties.
