Colva beach, one of Goa’s most iconic and popular tourist destinations, has introduced separate swim zones for ladies, gents, and families to enhance safety and comfort for all beachgoers.
The next time you visit the beach, do not be surprised to come across signboards demarcating separate swim zones for gents, ladies, and families, including children.
The swim zones have already been set up at the beach and are manned by the Drishti lifeguards. Sources pointed out that the signboards have come in handy for the lifeguards to direct males, females, and families to swim in their respective zones. “There may be instances wherein men may head straight to the swim zone earmarked for females. But, when we come across such situations, we refer the visitors to read the signboards and swim in their respective zones,” informed a lifeguard.
Another lifeguard said that the demarcation of the swim zones may help avoid nuisance created by drunken visitors in the waters. “So far, so good. The swim zones will help avoid nuisance for women who venture out in the sea for a swim,” remarked another lifeguard.
To a question, a lifeguard pointed out that the swim zones may undergo changes depending on the weather conditions. “If the sea is rough and the currents are strong, the swimming zone is shifted to a more conducive place,” sources said.
