Cong alleges obstruction of Margao SIR awareness push

The Margao Congress alleged that attempts were made to obstruct its door-to-door SIR awareness campaign in Azad Nagar.

MARGAO
The Margao Congress has claimed that attempts were made to block door-to-door SIR awareness campaigning in Margao, alleging that opponents confronted the Congress party team by obstructing them from educating the people about their rights and responsibilities with regard to the ongoing electoral roll revision.
Launching its campaign on Wednesday, the team led by Congress Block Convener Savio Coutinho, members, and BLAs visited houses at Azad Nagar, where every household informed them that the acknowledgement copy was not returned to them by the BLO of this part. “As we started getting the same response from every household, the BLO of that part came forward to justify the reason as to why the acknowledgement forms of the voters were not handed over. The BLO claimed that he did not hand over the acknowledgement copy as they may lose the same,” Coutinho informed, stating that the excuse was unjustified and irresponsible.
Through the BLO’s own admission, Coutinho said the delegation realised that multilayer voter enrolment has taken place in this Part No. 15. “Many of the houses there have been rented out by the owners (who have shifted elsewhere), and the present residents are enrolled at the same premises without deleting the previous names. The BLO himself has admitted this fact,” Coutinho said, demanding an explanation from the Election Commission if such multilayer electoral rights can be permitted in a single household.
“Our aim is to ensure that every eligible voter is on the electoral rolls, and every bogus voter should be flushed out of the rolls, and we will do everything possible to achieve this,” Coutinho said.
