The Margao Shigmotsav Samiti has appealed to the troupes participating in the Shigmo float parade in the city on April 6 to register with the civic body a day prior to the parade in view of the election code of conduct.

Margao Municipal Chief Officer, Gaurish Sankhwalkar, who is heading the Margao Shigmotsav Samiti this year due to the election code of conduct, told the media on Wednesday that the organisers intend to start the Chitra Rath competition by 6 pm on Saturday.

Reminding that sound restrictions have been imposed on the Shigmo float parades this year in view of the election of conduct in force, the Chief Officer said the authorities have made it clear that the organizers cannot use sound beyond the 10 pm deadline.

Addressing the media, the MMC Chief Officer said the parade will take place on the traditional route, starting from the Holy Spirit Square and culminating at the Margao Municipal Square.

“We intend to start the parade by 3 pm given the sound restrictions imposed by the authorities because of the election code of conduct,” he said.

Seeking cooperation from the participating troupes in the Shigmo parade, the Chief Officer said the civic body is in the process of contacting the troupes to explain to them to report on time so that the parade is wound up by 10 pm.

He said the committee has already placed the sacred coconut at Lord Damodar Temple at Pimpalkatta earlier this week, saying the MMC will be following the programme already decided by the Tourism department.
