Citing an example, GFP General Secretary Prashant Naik said that people of Canacona will face major transport connectivity issues with the creation of the new district.

“People from Canacona are used to travelling to Margao, a distance of 50 kilometres, for the simple reason that there is good connectivity. Around 40 buses leave Mashem and return from Margao every day. In contrast, only three buses ply from Canacona to Quepem. This will put the people to severe inconvenience,” Naik said.

Saying that the people of Canacona had opposed the idea of the third district when it was floated some months ago, the Goa Forward leader said that at that time, the people of Canacona had voiced their opposition to the move with valid reasons, the prime one being transport connectivity.

He added, “We were then assured that nothing had been finalised by the government to include Canacona in the third district. The government has now notified the third district by including Canacona. The people of Canacona will soon meet to take stock of the situation and decide how to oppose the government’s move.”
