Goa targets malaria-free status by 2025–26: Rane

PANAJI: Goa is steadily progressing in its mission to eliminate malaria and is currently in the Elimination Phase, with the state targeting complete eradication of the disease by 2025–26, announced Health Minister Vishwajit Rane. As part of this effort, a proposal has been submitted for the Sub-National Malaria Elimination Award for South Goa for the years 2022, 2023, and 2024.

In a post on X today, Rane said, “To sustain this progress and eliminate vector-borne diseases, the Directorate of Health Services has issued an advisory to various departments to focus on sanitation practices across different regions.”

He added that mandatory malaria screening and health cards for all labourers at construction sites have been implemented under the Goa Public Health Act. The government, he said, is also coordinating with various government departments, private societies, and other stakeholders to enhance surveillance and prevention.

“This fight against vector-borne diseases requires equal community participation by keeping surroundings clean and eliminating mosquito breeding sites,” Rane emphasised. “Public participation and inter-departmental coordination is the key. Let us work together to ensure a VBD-free Goa.”
