It was a matter of pride for Goa, and the coastal Agonda village in particular, when a son of the soil and scientist, Prof Rodney Fernandes, was promoted to the prestigious Higher Administrative Grade (HAG) position at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay.

“Besides being a personal achievement for Prof Fernandes, this milestone marks a significant moment for the Goan academic and scientific community, more precisely as his elevation to the HAG scale is a testament to his remarkable journey of hard work, dedication, and outstanding contribution to the field of chemical sciences,” stated Dr Mithil Phaldesai, professor in the Dept of Chemistry at Shri Mallikarjun & Chentan Manju Desai College, Canacona.

Prof Rodney Fernandes did his schooling at St Anne’s Institute, Agonda, and HSSC at the Govt Higher Secondary School (Canacona), before pursuing further studies at Goa University and completing a PhD at the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune.
