Archbishop of Delhi Anil Couto, a prelate hailing from Pomburpa, was re-elected as Secretary General, while Archbishop of Hyderabad Cardinal Poola Anthony was elected President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI).
The CBCI elected its new office bearers during the 37th General Body Meeting held on Saturday, for a term of two years.
Archbishop of Tiruvalla Thomas Mar Koorilos was elected Vice President–First, while Archbishop of Kottayam Mathew Moolakkatt was elected Vice President-Second.
Reflecting the rich diversity of the Catholic Church in India, Cardinal Poola Anthony and Archbishop Anil Couto belong to the Latin Rite; Archbishop Thomas Mar Koorilos belongs to the Syro-Malankara Rite; and Archbishop Mathew Moolakkatt belongs to the Syro-Malabar Rite.
