Rajya Sabha MP requests Centre for separate postal circle for Goa

Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade said he has formally requested the Centre to establish a separate Postal Circle specifically for Goa.

Addressing a news conference in the BJP District Office at Mapusa on Friday, Tanavade said he had put forth the request during the Rajya Sabha session

“Goa currently falls under the jurisdiction of the Maharashtra Postal Circle, but possesses distinct linguistic, socio-economic, and administrative requirements. The establishment of a separate postal circle for Goa would not only create increased employment opportunities for local youth but would also significantly enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of postal services in the State,” said Tanavade.

Tanavade further stated that during the upcoming session of Parliament, commencing on April 16, he intends to actively follow up on issues concerning backward classes and rural development projects.

Tanavade also mentioned that the central government has provided financial assistance to the forest department to mitigate crop damage caused by wild animals.

“This allocated fund will be utilised to install solar-powered fencing and for planting fruit-bearing trees within forest areas; this measure aims to prevent wild animals from straying into agricultural fields and human settlements in search of food,” said Tanavade.

Admitting that only 6,000 farmers in Goa presently receive benefits under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, Tanavade stated that a demand has been placed before the central government to relax the scheme's eligibility criteria so as to include farmers who do not own land of their own—specifically those who cultivate land as tenants or on Comunidade lands.

Tanavade further noted that the construction work on the Goa-Mumbai Highway has been languishing for over a decade.

“This highway serves as the lifeline for the Konkan region and Goa. Consequently, a demand has also been raised urging the government to establish a clear and definitive timeline for the immediate completion of this project,’ he said.

Others present during the news conference included the BJP District President Dayanand Karbhotkar and Ramesh Ghadi.
