Following the Central government’s decision to reduce GST on dairy products, the Belagavi Milk Union (BEMUL), the Belagavi Unit of Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) and a major supplier of milk and milk products in Goa, has announced a price cut on more than 30 products.

The new rates came into effect from September 22, directly benefiting consumers across the state and proportionately in Goa.

The revised rates of products are Ghee - 1 kg (from Rs 650 to Rs 610), Cheese - 1 kg (from Rs 530 to Rs 497), Paneer - 1 kg (from Rs 425 to Rs 408), Buttermilk - 150 gms (from Rs 50 to Rs 45), Butter - 500 gms (from Rs 115 to Rs 102), Ice Cream - 100 ml (from Rs 35 to Rs 31) and Cream - 500 ml (from Rs 645 to Rs 574).

The GST has been reduced on ghee, cheese, chocolates, and confectionery from 12% to 5%; on cream, chocolate ice cream, and instant mix products from 18% to 5%; and on paneer, buttermilk, and certain other dairy items from 5% to zero.

According to KMF authorities, the price reduction will directly benefit people in both urban and rural areas.

“Since dairy products form an essential part of daily consumption, households will see relief in their monthly budgets. On the other hand, lower prices are expected to boost demand, leading to increased sales volume. This, in turn, will indirectly benefit milk producers as well,” said Balachandra Jarkiholi, President of the Belagavi Milk Union.

“Keeping consumer welfare in mind, the Central government’s move to reduce GST is a significant step. Belagavi Milk Union products are now available at more competitive prices. This will benefit both farmers and consumers.”
