PERNEM: Students of Std VIII from Shree Bhagvati High School, Pernem, recently visited the nursery section of Pernem agriculture department, as part of an educational trip to gain information on different farms, flower and medicinal plants. Besides providing them with relevant information, the Pernem agriculture department officer and other officers also provided the students with information on grafting of cashew, mango and flower plants. The students were also given information on sunflowers and its usage, Kokum trees and ways to increase productivity by taking measures to curb pests. (TGN)

Nanda Sawal was unanimously elected president of Vithal Manch Sangati. At the general meeting convened at Javdekar hall, Vithalapur-Sanquelim, other office-bearers elected are Deepa Pujari (vice president), Deepak Sakhalkar (secretary), Subhash Mahale (treasurer) and Somkant Mahale, Sriram Bakre, Surat Pujari, Shailesh Fatarpekar and Audumbar Jogle (members). Earlier, in his welcome address, Nanda Sawal called upon the members to give their best to organise different social and cultural programme. (TGN)

to get road
CORTALIM Environment Minister and Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha on Saturday inaugurated the construction of a road at Thane-Cortalim. The road, which is being built by PWD at the cost of Rs 2.5 lakh, will benefit 20 households in the area. In the absence of a tarred road, people from the 20 houses had faced considerable hardship travelling to and from their homes, especially during the monsoons. Others present at the function included PWD Junior Engineer Marcos Costa and the contractor C V Pereira. (TGN)
