Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said the 10,000 government jobs promised will be delivered well in time and before the model code of conduct for the 2022 elections, which bans any such government recruitment, comes into force.
Sawant said of the 10,000 vacancies advertisements to begin the recruitment process for as many as 7,500 to 8,000 posts have already been published.
Similarly, the process for the balance posts will be set in motion within the next eight days, he added.
The chief minister claimed that the entire process of recruiting will be completed well ahead of the MCC coming into force for the elections, adding that he has instructed officials to fast-track the process.
Goa is slated to go for elections to its 40-member legislature in early 2022 and the Sawant government has for over a year been promising recruitment in various departments to the extent of 10,000 vacancies.
Unemployment is being touted as a crucial poll issue and Opposition political parties have been taunting Sawant and the BJP on this count.
A recent "Mood of the State" survey conducted by leading TV news channel Prudent Media has also list unemployment among the top five important issues in the elections.
Congress, which is the principal Opposition party, has been raking up the issue off-and-on over the last several months.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has in fact launched an aggressive outreach programme on the issue with its supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal making a big announcement of a guarantee of one job for every family and unemployment dole of Rs 3000 per-month to every youth until such time as he/she lands a job.
Kejriwal's promise of jobs includes both government as well as private sector jobs with a rider that AAP government will pass a law reserving 80% jobs in the private sector for locals.
