A Karnataka excise team at the Majali check post seized 111 Goan liquor bottles worth about Rs one lakh from a tanker which had arrived from Goa in the wee hours of Thursday.
According to sources, Karnataka Excise Sub-Inspector MM Naik, who was stationed at the Majali check post, and his team stopped a Karnataka-registered tanker on a tip-off at about 2 am on Thursday.
The excise team recovered 111 IMFL liquor bottles of different brands of whiskey and brandy (83.250 litres) valued at over Rs 99,000.
The driver of the tanker has been taken into custody and the tanker has been detained for further investigation.
The investigation is reportedly being jointly conducted by Karnataka Excise Department and the Karnataka Police.
