11-day Chaturthi festivities conclude in Margao

The curtains came down on the eleven-day Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, marking 'Anant Chaturdashi' on Thursday, September 15.
In the State's commercial capital, Margao, devotees braved a downpour to bid adieu to Lord Ganesha, as the idol of the Lord worshipped at Pimpalkatta Sarvajanik Shree Ganeshotsav was taken for immersion in a procession which commenced from Pimpalkatta at 6.15 pm to the Cloth lane, Farmacia Salcete lane, MMC junction, old railway gate to Kharebandh where the final immersion was scheduled later in the evening.
Amid chants of 'Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Loukar Ya,' devotees lined up all along the route of the procession to take the final 'Darshan' of Lord Ganesha, and sought blessings after which they accepted prasad.
As the procession commenced its journey from Pimpalkatta, bhajan mandalis singing paeans to Lord Ganesh danced ahead of the procession. Members of pathak (troupe) of Shree Narsinha Pratishthan, Miraj, with traditional instruments of dhol, samel, etc, performed along the route to the 'Lezim' dance of its members. A display of fireworks added another touch of enthusiasm to the evening's proceedings.
Simultaneously, the procession to immerse the idol of Lord Ganesh worshipped at the Telephone Exchange, Margao, also began its journey which wound its way through the city.
This marks the end of the eleven-day festival while the 21-day Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations will conclude upon the immersion of the idol worshipped at Shree Samarthgad, Housing Board on September 25.
