A camp conducted by the South Goa district election authorities saw around 12 persons registered themselves as third gender voters in the electoral list.
The 12 new voters were enrolled on the electoral rolls as part of the ongoing revision of electoral rolls presently underway in the State.
After the camp, around 12 person have registered themselves as third gender voters and they are now all eligible to cast their votes in the coming election.
Additional South Goa district election officer, Sanjit Rodrigues, IAS informed that the exercise was initiated by the district electoral officer, Ruchika Katyal, IAS with the help and assistance of NGOs working for the transgender in the State. “Though the election authorities were able to register 12 third gender voters during the camp, we now expect many others to come and register their names on the election rolls,” he said.
Sanjit added: “The figure is bound to go up in the coming days when those who have enrolled themselves on the election rolls will go and spread the word amongst their colleagues. The intensive roll revision is underway and any person can come and register themselves on the electoral roll,” he said.
