120 kgs of meat seized at Sattari check post

VALPOI

About 120 kilos of meat which was illegally being transported from Belagavi to Goa was seized by police at the Keri check post in Sattari in the wee hours of Wednesday.

According to reports, the incident took place at about 1.30 am, when a car arriving from Belagavi was stopped for a routine inspection at the Keri check post.

When a police team began making enquiries, the driver acted in a suspicious manner and the police then opened the boot, only to notice four large bags containing 120 kilos of meat.

The police then sought to check documents to permit transportation of the meat and the driver was unable to provide any documents.

A team led by Valpoi PSI Prathamesh Gawas then seized the meat and detained the vehicle.

Sources said the meat was reportedly being sent to Margao and other parts of the State.

After conducting the panchanama and an examination of the meat, authorities later disposed off the meat.
