The Department of Information Technology has announced that Rs 3.58 crore has been disbursed to 135 beneficiaries under the Goa Startup Policy. Highlighting the State’s growing startup ecosystem, the department stated that Goa currently has 592 DPIIT-recognised startups and 262 SITPC-certified startups operating across diverse sectors, including IT, tourism, and sustainability.
To further support startups, the department has introduced several initiatives, such as the Founders Club, Masterclass, Goa Startup & Corporate Bridge, Goa Startup Yatra, Goa Startup Yatra Bootcamp, Monsoon Connect “ Goa’s Digital Nomad Meetup, Tech Media Startup Expo 2024, and First Friday. These initiatives aim to provide networking opportunities, mentorship, infrastructure, and funding to entrepreneurs.
These developments were discussed at the 9th Empowered Committee meeting on startup empowerment, held at Mantralaya on Thursday. Chaired by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the committee, which serves as the apex decision-making body for evaluating applications and sanctioning incentives under the Goa Startup Policy, deliberated on various matters concerning the state’s startup ecosystem.
“During the meeting, six startups presented their business ideas under the Seed Capital Grant Scheme. The committee also reviewed applications under different incentive schemes, with 11 applications submitted for the Co-working Space Subsidy and two applications received under the Salary Subsidy Scheme,” reads a press statement, adding that the meeting was also attended by ministers Rohan Khaunte (Tourism, IT), Mauvin Godinho (Transport), and other officials.
“With Goa’s startup ecosystem witnessing increased participation, the government remains committed to refining policies, ensuring faster application processing, and strengthening collaborations, contributing to the larger goal of Viksit Bharat 2047,” it further said.
