Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said 150 water bodies to be taken up for rejuvenation under the Amrut Sarovar scheme.
Sawant was speaking to reporters after reviewing works to de-weed the Maimolem lake near Tanya Hotel in the presence of Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, BJP Mandal President Deepak Naik, Councillors Shami Salkar, Girish Borker, Amay Chopdekar and other locals.
"We have taken up rejuvenation of various water bodies in the State under the Amrut Sarovar scheme and Maimolem lake is one of the projects under the scheme. This will now be the responsibility of the people to take care of the lake and its upkeep by keeping it clean,” said Sawant.
“We have to take care of all water bodies and we have begun to take care of 75 water bodies in every district across the country. We will have around 150 water bodies to be taken up in Goa under the Amrut Sarovar scheme."
Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar said various programmes were being conducted during the Samajik Nyay Saptah party programme.
"We are now trying to clean water bodies and we will do it on a larger scale at Maimolem lake to restore it to a natural water body through the WRD. We are also trying to have a drive to ensure that de-weeding is done and the lake is cleaned ahead of monsoons to prevent flooding in area.”
“We have also taken an NOC from the comunidade to set up a sewage pumping station and the process has already begun to prevent sewage flow in the lake. Both the works to set up a sewage pumping station and restoration of the lake under the Amrut Sarovar scheme will be taken up simultaneously," said Salkar.
