PORVORIM
Porvorim police have booked two persons following a complaint that non-payment of dues amounting to Rs 45 lakh had led to financial hardship and mental trauma, culminating in the suicide of a subcontractor of a construction company at a hotel in Porvorim.
In a police complaint, Virendra Prasad stated that his late brother, Banti, was engaged by the company for renovation work at the Kala Academy in Panaji.
The complainant stated that Banti had carried out the assigned work as instructed by the company's representatives, identified as Ashish Vadgama and a person named Tousif, whose full name is not known.
However, despite satisfactory completion of the work, the company allegedly failed to release payments amounting to Rs 45 lakh due to Banti, alleged Virendra.
Virendra claimed the continued non-payment allegedly caused financial hardship, mental stress and emotional trauma to Banti. The complaint further alleges that, as a result, Banti ended his life at a hotel in Porvorim, on June 30.
Based on the complaint, Porvorim Police registered the case under Section 108 read with Section 3(5) of the BNS, 2023, against the persons concerned for allegedly abetting the suicide. Further investigation is in progress. PSI Mandar Parab is conducting the investigation.
