On a day when a landslide and falling boulders claimed the life of a woman in Vasco, heavy rains in the port town also caused two canoes to sink in the Vaddem Bay and Voddant.

Sources said both canoes, which had been anchored, sank after rainwater filled the canoes.

When contacted, one canoe owner, Surendra Tari, confirmed the incident.

“My canoe was filled with rainwater and sank late on Monday night and I received information about the loss of my canoe early Tuesday morning.”“Due to heavy rains on Monday, my canoe had been filled with rainwater and I managed to remove the water from my canoe. But the rains resumed at 5 pm and continued all night long. By 4 am, my canoe had sunk in the water.”

“I had to summon divers and they hooked my canoe to another boat. They managed to pull out my canoe and we emptied all water from the canoe.”

“Another person also had the same issue and his canoe, which was anchored at Voddant, had sunk as well. Both the canoes have been retrieved from the water,” said Tari.
