A farmer was seriously injured while his brother sustained minor injuries after they were attacked by a bison at their cashew plantation in Savoi-Verem.
According to reports, the incident took place as Dharma Girodkar and his brother Dinu had gone to work in their cashew plantation on Tuesday.
A bison charged and attacked them, seriously injuring Dharma, while Dinu escaped with minor injuries. Dharma was later admitted to the GMC hospital for teatment.
Taking serious note of the incident, Priol MLA Govind Gaude said the bison had recently begun straying into plantations.
“The reason for this is that people are destroying forests and their habitations. People must be careful while going to plantations and forests,” said Gaude.
He has decided to convene a meeting with forest department officials to initiate measures to prevent such attacks in future. He also said that efforts will also be made to ensure that people injured in animal attacks receive appropriate compensation.
