Two fishing boats were damaged in a fire at the Cortalim fishing jetty on Friday evening.
According to sources, the trawlers caught fire at around 6.30 pm and while one of them sustained greater damage, the other was partially damaged in the fire. Locals in the area notified the fire services of the fire mishap.
"Both boats belonged to one owner and were anchored at the jetty for a long time. The boats were not operational since the last few months due to the pandemic.”
“The owner is out of Goa at present and the boats have been managed by a person from Benaulim. While the owner could face losses of around Rs 15 lakh, an investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the fire," said the source.
