OLD GOA: Acting on a complaint from a scrapyard owner, Old Goa police arrested two history-sheeters from Merces on charges of extortion, assault and threatening with dire consequences.
Old Goa PI Jivba Dalvi informed that the scrapyard owner Vinod Waghmode (25) from Merces complained that on July 21, while he was headed home, the two accused persons, Suraj Shetye and Vishal Vilas Golatkar, both from Merces, approached him and began assaulting him.
“Further, they demanded Rs 50,000 as hafta for protection from the complainant at knife point. On an earlier occasion in May, the complainant had paid Rs 15,000 to the said accused persons out of fear for his life,” PI Dalvi said. The complainant approached the Old Goa police and after being given confidence by PI Dalvi, an offence was registered on Monday.
Within hours of registration of the offence, a team of Old Goa police raided the residences of the accused and placed them under arrest under Sections 341, 323, 506 (ii), 387 read with 34 IPC. The police also recovered the knife used while committing the offence.
The Old Goa police informed that the accused, Suraj Shetye, is involved in five crimes, while Vishal Golatkar has six crimes registered against him spread across Old Goa, Panaji and Porvorim police stations.
PI Dalvi has requested public to come forward and lodge complaints against the two accused persons if they have also been harassed by the two history-sheeters. Further investigation is in progress.
