Calangute Police arrested two persons from North India involved in an extortion racket in the State.  

The accused, Parveen Bunty Dhankar (24), a resident of Haryana and Iqbaal Vinay Singh (26) of Delhi were arrested after almost one week surveillance in Delhi, police said.  

According to Calangute Police, the complainant Ravi Reddy Madduri (38), resident of Saligao but native of Andhra Pradesh had stated that three unknown persons had wrongfully confined him in a private apartment on 

February 5.  

He said the alleged accused intoxicated with alcohol and after instilling fear induced him to transfer and amount of Rs 5.60 lakh.  

An offence under sections 342, 328, 384 R/w 34 of IPC was immediately registered by police.  

Launching an investigation, police put the mobile phones of the accused on surveillance and tracked their location at Delhi and Haryana.  

“After obtaining the movements of the accused through various CCTV footages when they were in Goa it was confirmed that they had left the State via Dabolim airport,” PI Jivba Dalvi said.  

The Swift Dzire car with registration number UP 80 EF 7070 used by the accused was attached from the parking area at the Dabolim airport.  

Further a team of Goa Police went to Delhi and with the assistance of Special Cell of Delhi police maintain a vigil for the accused.  “Eventually after six days of continuous surveillance in Delhi the accused persons were traced and nabbed,” Calangute PI said.  

After obtaining a five-day transit remand from a court in Delhi the accused were brought to Goa and lodged in police lockup.  

During interrogation the accused persons confessed to have committed a similar extortion crime at Porvorim on January 22.  

A case under section 364-A, 394, 342, 504 R/w 34 IPC has been lodged against them at Porvorim Police Station.  

The Porvorim police will be obtaining the custody of the accused persons once the remand of Calangute Police 

gets over.  

A separate police team has already left from Goa to trace the third accused, police said.  

Further investigation is on.
