Two traffic signboards, meant to indicate parking of two-wheelers, that were lying unattended at the parking zone for weeks in Vasco went unnoticed by the authorities concerned.
Ironically, while meetings are being convened regularly for resolving traffic and parking woes by top officials, miscreants damaged the signboards that were erected to ease parking vehicles and surprisingly, traffic authority, who fined people for wrong parking on the stretch of road, failed to notice the broken signboards.
According to Samson D'Silva, the signboards erected by authorities were broken by miscreants by bending and twisting and it lay bent horizontally on the parking slot near a commercial complex for many months.
"Despite many offices having CCTVs and main road with heavy traffic all day, no one realised when, how and who broke the signboard. After the signboard was broken, an alert citizen, whose was hurt while parking his two wheeler, volunteered to keep the signboard away from the parking slot," said D'Silva.
"People have been fined for wrong parking, but how are citizens to know where to park if signboards are removed and authority is not acting," questioned D'Silva.
What is worse is that another signboard was also damaged and kept on the parking slot and a kid was hurt on Wednesday evening while walking.
"This signboard has been lying for many days. Many people were hurt. If someone having diabetes gets hurt with the sharp edges, then it can cause complications," said another resident,
Aqif Syed.
I will immediately get it removed, keep check on such miscreants: CO
VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes said he will immediately send the MMC staff and get the signboard removed from the parking lot.
Fernandes reacted swiftly after the matter was brought to his notice by The Goan.
"I had written to the RTO to find details and provide factual reports on all dangerous signboards across Vasco. I have just received the report. I will study the report and then take further action on such signboards that are causing inconvenience to pedestrians," Fernandes told The Goan.
"I plan to make Vasco the number one city with everybody's cooperation. I request people to provide me information," he added.
