PANAJI
A mysterious, dark-skinned intruder, apparently with a voyeur fetish has been haunting residents of a plush apartment-building on Taleigao plateau by breaking into their flats and getting into their bedrooms in the dead of the night.
The man, almost nude save for briefs and oil on his entire body, breaks-in mostly between 3.30 am and 4 am through windows of their halls or kitchens.
On the two occasions that he was discovered by occupants, he has swiftly slipped out and escaped through the same window that he entered.
He does not rob any valuables, except for cash and women’s underwear. Also, both the times that he was discovered, he was found inside bedrooms closely watching the sleeping residents.
Owners and occupants of at least nine apartments in the ‘A-block’ of Adwalpalkar Horizon filed a complaint narrating their haunting experiences before the Panaji police on Wednesday evening.
Panaji police have not yet registered any first information report, although one of the residents filed a complaint on September 3, because “nothing was robbed”.
On Wednesday evening, when the residents filed a collective complaint signed by owners/occupants of as many as nine flats, the police again did not register any FIR.
The first time that the residents experienced the mysterious going-ons was way back on June 15. According to their complaint, two women residing in apartment no 501 were shocked to find the man curled up on the floor next to them in their bedroom around 3.30 am. When they woke up and raised alarm, he swiftly disappeared. The women brushed off the incident as a dream, then.
The latest incident was reported as recently as September 2, when the couple residing in Apartment No 204, were shocked to find the man in their bedroom watching them asleep from right above them. When they got up and attempted to chase him, he swiftly exited from the hall window and escaped.
The man was nude except for his underwear and with oil on his entire body, both the times, according to the eyewitness accounts.
On enquires among themselves, the residents realised almost every single house in the block was broken into as dirty-oily foot and fingerprints were discovered on windows and floors, they told the police. Several of the apartment occupants have also reported missing cash amounting to nearly Rs 35,000.
“It is also important to note that he is only entering houses that have women living in them. It is extremely scary that this psycho / pervert / thief can easily break into the homes because of the terrible security in the building,” the complaint from the residents said.
There are no CCTVs installed either in the basement or the staircase/ common areas. The entry to the apartment-building from the basement is also not monitored, the residents said.
