Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said his government is committed to generate 20,000 jobs in the next two years in both government and private sector.
Responding to severe critic from the Opposition citing NITI Ayog statistics on unemployment, Sawant said multiple government departments and agencies are engaged in a serious exercise to do away with the gap between the skill sets required by industry and those possessed by the unemployed human resource of the State.
Sawant said, there are number of opportunities in Goa and the large-scale outmigration trend can be reversed by a change in mindset towards white and blue collared jobs.
"Tourism is the primary economic engine. Goans will have to now think of skilling themselves to pick up jobs thrown up in the industry," Sawant said.
The chief minister said, through multiple agencies like the ITIs (Craftsmen Training), Human Resource Corporation and Human Resource Foundation, the government is working to skill and upskill those who have dropped at school level, Class XII and graduate level so as to make them employable by the economic sectors operating in Goa.
Responding to the issue raised by Opposition MLAs that jobs offered in private sector are low paying, Sawant said minimum wages will be revised and notified for unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled labour.
Sawant also said that the government has resolved the issue of fixed term employment in private sector to ensure that payment of gratuity is not skipped by employers.
He also said the new industrial policy will include an apprenticeship policy by which those skilled through ITI courses such as plumber, carpentry, electrician and others make a smooth transition to employment in industry.
