The Additional Sessions Court, North Goa, has directed the framing of charges against two men accused of attempted murder and criminal trespass in 2022.
In the order pronounced on December 2, Addl Sessions Judge Vijaya Ambre held that a prima facie case exists against accused Chetan Korgaonkar and Santosh Shetty for offences under Sections 341 (criminal trespass) and 307 (attempted murder) read with 34 (common intention) of the IPC, and Section 3 read with 25 of the Arms Act.
The incident occurred in St Cruz when the accused allegedly carried a firearm and a sword to attack the victim.
As per the prosecution, the duo allegedly entered the complainant’s rented room on September 16, 2022, where the first accused purportedly pointed a firearm at him. During the scuffle, the complainant’s roommates arrived, after which the accused allegedly fled.
Later, while the complainant was proceeding to Old Goa Police Station, both accused allegedly wrongfully restrained him, and Korgaonkar allegedly assaulted the victim with a sword with the intent to kill.
The court noted that a recovery panchanama led to the seizure of the pistol and sword at the instance of Korgaonkar, and that witness statements placed both accused at the scene. The Judge concluded that the material on record was sufficient to proceed with the framing of charges against the accused.
