Adding a fresh twist to the political landscape in the Aldona Zilla Panchayat constituency, Pomburpa-based activist Alvito D’Silva on Tuesday announced his candidature for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections scheduled for December 20.
D’Silva will contest as an independent candidate with the support of the Save Goa Environment team.
D’Silva, who has been vocal against large-scale projects proposed in village areas, said his decision stems from a commitment to protect Aldona and its neighbouring regions from what he described as “unplanned and destructive development.”
Highlighting long-pending development works in the constituency, D’Silva said Aldona has suffered due to prolonged neglect.
“There is so much development that needs attention. If given a chance, I will serve the people to the best of my ability,” he said.
He appealed to voters to participate enthusiastically in the upcoming election, stressing that collective action is essential to bring about real change.
“If we want to see real change and protect our village of Aldona, we must stand together,” he added.
D’Silva’s entry – an independent backed by an environmental group – has injected political curiosity into the high-stakes Aldona seat.
While the BJP has already declared its candidate in its second list, the Congress has yet to announce its nominee, leaving the contest wide open as polling day approaches.
