Mapusa Police on Monday arrested a 21-year-old man from Chattisgarh on charges of raping a 31-year-old mentally challenged woman in his rented room.
Police nabbed the accused within two hours after the victim’s mother lodged a complaint at Mapusa Police Station.
The woman’s mother complained that the accused lured her daughter by promising to get her pan masala and wrongfully confined her in his room and thereafter had forcible sexual intercourse with her.
Police sources informed that the accused was familiar with the victim’s family as he was their neighbour.
Soon after receiving the complaint, Mapusa PI Shitakant Nayak constituted different teams to gather intel inputs and track the accused.
Finally, after conducting a detailed investigation police nabbed the accused Vijay Kashmiri, who resides in Bardez but is a native of Chhattisgarh.
Police have registered an offence under Section 342, 376 (2) (I) IPC and Section 92-D of Right of Persons with Disabilities Act.
