235 nominations in Canacona

Nominations of 235 candidates were found in order during scrutiny of papers to contest elections to the seven panchayats of Canacona taluka.

Ramdas Babu Pujari, the lone candidate who filed his nomination for Mahalwada (Ward 4) of Poinguinim panchayat, has been elected unopposed, the only one so far in Canacona Taluka.

With many wards having just two nominations, some more candidates could also get elected unopposed as candidates can withdraw their nominations on Monday.

The number of candidates left in fray are Agonda (24), Khola (39), Shristhal (38), Gaondongrim (36), Cotigao (27), Poinguinim (36) and Loliem-Polem (35) are in the fray.

RO rejects complaints of EPIC cards

Returning Officer and Mormugao Mamlatdar Satish Prabhu has rejected the complaint filed by Hemant Phadte against former Chicalim deputy sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav, after citing Supreme Court guidelines that nobody could be debarred from contesting elections even if one possessed two election identity cards.
