23-year-old meets watery grave off Baina beach

In a tragic incident, a 23-year-old man met a watery grave off the Baina coast on Sunday morning. According to information from sources in the Harbour Coastal Police, the deceased was identified as Vishal Nayak (23), a resident of Nerul but a native of Madhya Pradesh.

“The incident happened on Sunday afternoon off the Baina beach shore. Nayak was working as a labourer on a water sports boat and had come along with tourists to the Baina beach. The boat had come near the Bat Island off the Baina coast, and the tourists inside the boat went for the water sports activities. Nayak, who was on board the boat, is believed to have gone to remove the anchor of the boat and got drowned,” a source said.

“When the tourists returned to the boat after water sports activities, he was not to be found in the boat. The other workers of the boat began to search for him but found his body floating in the water. He was then rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead, and his body was later shifted to the Chicalim Sub-District Hospital. The body has been preserved, and the post-mortem is likely to be conducted on Monday,” the source added.

PI Pradeep Velip of the Harbour Coastal Police station is carrying out further investigation into the incident.
