It’s official. A total of 24,669 candidates will vie for the 147 jobs up for grabs in the South Goa Collectorate as curtains came down on the fortnight-long exercise of inviting applications for the vacant posts.
It means that around 167 candidates on an average will vie for one job advertised by the District Collector Agnelo Fernandes to fill up the vacant posts. And, the number of applications that were submitted to the office of the District Collector showed that all the four posts of LDCs, talathis, junior stenographers and multi-tasking staff turned out attractive for the job seekers going by the number of application against each of these posts.
For the nine posts of talathis, the administration received as many as 5283 applications, implying that a whopping 587 candidates will vie for each of the nine posts.
Similar is the case with the posts of junior stenographers, around 15 posts to be precise. Going by the 4766 applications received for the 15 posts, around 317 candidates will have to compete with each other for each of the posts.
The total number of vacancies notified in respect of the much sought after Lower Divisional Clerks is pegged at around 92. As against these posts, the Collector has received a whopping number of applications, around 13937 to be precise. This means that around 151 candidates will have to compete with each other for the 92 vacant posts of LDCs.
The posts for the multi-tasking staff also evoked huge response from the job seekers. The 31 posts notified for the multi-tasking staff had evoked response from as many as 4766 candidates, indicating that 153 candidates will vie for the 31 posts at stake.
Sources told The Goan that while the process of candidate selection has been set in motion with the Collector inviting the applications for the 147 vacant posts, the scene now shifts outside the Collectorate, with the hope of getting the prized job now looking up for their political godfathers to do the needful.
Sources said the powers that be, who have been approached by some of the candidates and their guardians, have adopted the stand that they will intervene only in the event at the last stage after they clear all the stages in the selection process.
