The Calangute police arrested a 25-year-old man on Saturday night after recovering more than one kilogram of ganja near the helipad at Aguada in Sinquerim.

The accused, identified as Rahul Khan, originally from Auraiya district in Uttar Pradesh and currently living at Mendes Vaddo, Nagao in Bardez, was caught during a late evening police operation.

Police said a search of his shoulder bag led to the recovery of 1.06 kg of a green leafy substance with flowering and fruiting tops, suspected to be ganja. The seized contraband is valued at around RS 1 lakh. It was confiscated under a panchanama in line with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Following a complaint by a Calangute police official, a case has been registered under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act. Police said the arrest was made in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines. Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Vighnesh Naik to trace the source of the drugs and find out if the accused is linked to a larger drug network.
