272 candidates pass scrutiny

After two days of scrutiny, the Chief Electoral Office (CEO) has announced out of the 405 candidates that had initially filed nominations, a total of 272 were cleared to contest the upcoming elections.

Out of the 272 that were cleared, 127 were from North Goa and 145 from South Goa.

Among the highest, St Andre, Velim and Cortalim had 12 nominations while St Cruz and Fatorda got 10 nominations.

Thought the CEO has cleared 272 nominations, a clear picture of who's contesting from where will be clear on Saturday, the last day for withdrawal of candidature.

Of the 405 nominations that were filed as of January 18, there were a total of 346 candidates. Several nominations were filed as dummies either by wives of those contesting. A consice number will emerge only on Saturday.
