Nearly 2,000 workers at anganwadis across Goa are set to get a thorough health check-up with the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim launching a health screening programme for them.
The first few batches of anganwadi workers have already undergone their detailed health screening including blood tests and ECGs besides other targeted health assessments.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has called the programme a "significant step" towards preventive healthcare.
Over 2,000 anganwadi workers and helpers will be screened, he said.
"This initiative will provide complete health checkups including blood tests, ECG, X-rays and targeted health assessments,” Rane said in a post on X.
The programme is strengthening the entire community healthcare system as the anganwadi workers are critical touch points for women and children, especially in rural areas, he said.
"Their health directly impacts the quality of care provided to vulnerable populations," Rane added, claiming it emphasises the importance of supporting those who serve society at the grassroots level.
