2nd attempt ends in tragedy as youth commits suicide

CANACONA

After being rescued while attempting to commit suicide on Sunday morning, a youth from Shristhal ended his life in his house on Friday evening.

Sources informed that the parents and others in the house found the lifeless body of Sarvesh Pednekar (28) in his room and raised an alarm.

Some neighbours rushed Pednekar to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Canacona, where doctors on duty declared him brought dead on arrival.

It may be recalled that Pednekar had attempted to end his life by jumping off the Galgibaga bridge on Sunday, but the tide was low in the Galgibaga river at the time and Pednekar landed on sludge.

He was later rescued by Dristhi Life Savers. He was taken to the CHC and later handed over to police, who in turn, contacted his parents.

It is reliably learnt that Sarvesh Pednekar, who was working abroad, had been suffering extreme depression after his fiancée had broken up their relationship and had allegedly attempted to end his life in the recent past.
