A major accident involving a truck, a brand-new car and an ambulance which left three persons injured at Cacora in Curchorem has raised fresh concerns over the dangerous condition of roads in the area.
The car, carrying a family returning home from a wedding function, reportedly came under the impact of a truck, leading to severe damage to the vehicle.
According to locals at the site, an ambulance travelling behind the vehicles was forced to apply sudden brakes after the collision and subsequently rammed into the rear side of the MG car, resulting in a secondary accident.
Three occupants of the car sustained injuries and were shifted to Curchorem Health Centre for medical treatment.
Locals blamed the poor state of roads for the mishap, alleging that ongoing sewerage works and large potholes have turned several stretches into “death traps”.
They said motorists are often forced to swerve their vehicles to avoid potholes and dug-up sections, increasing the risk of accidents.
Locals also criticised the Public Works Department and the government for allegedly failing to address repeated complaints regarding the deteriorating road conditions.
They expressed concern that the situation could worsen further with the onset of monsoon rains if immediate repairs are not undertaken.
Police personnel reached the spot and carried out a panchnama of the accident.
